It was a rainy first day back to school, but that didn’t dampen the excitement for students and their parents at drop-off this morning.
After a bowl of Fruit Loops, Ayden Sanchez walked to the Brown School with his dad, Junior, for his first day as a third grader in Ms. McMahon’s class.
“I’m excited,” Ayden said. “I had a good summer going to the beach.” The class he’s looking forward to the most this year? “I really like gym.”
Camille Plauche is also starting third grade. She was trying hard not to get her sparkly new Skechers muddy on her way into school.
“I’m looking forward to art class,” she said. “I really like drawing.”
Kaya Foster is a new second grader and arrived at school with her parents, Chris and Leila, and her little sister, Sedona.
“I like writing books,” Kaya answered when asked what she’s looking forward to this school year.
“She wrote chapter books and recipe books over the summer,” said her mom.
Marblehead News caught up with Superintendent Dr. John Buckey walking into the Brown School.
“I still get the first day jitters,” Buckey admitted. He started his day at 5:30 a.m. with a workout at the gym.
Every year on the first day of school, Buckey visits every teacher in all five Marblehead schools. “I like to thank every teacher and wish them a good year.”
Crossing guard Ruth Curtis was back for her eighth year at the intersection of Cornell and Dartmouth Roads.
“I’m loving it, loving it,” she said with a wide smile. “The kids are so sweet. Parents are so welcoming and introduce themselves and their children. And the kids are so proud of themselves.”
