Marblehead Police to institute traffic, safety plans for Fourth

The Marblehead Police Department has announced the following traffic and safety plans for events in town over the Fourth of July weekend.

Horribles Parade

Date: Monday, July 4 (rain date Sunday, July 10)

Time: From approximately 9 a.m. on

Location: Pleasant Street between Spring and Washington streets, Essex Street

Details: Beginning at approximately 9 a.m., Pleasant Street will be closed between Spring Street and Washington Street (South) by 3 Cod Tavern, and Spring Street will become one-way from Pleasant Street to Sewall Street. Essex Street will be closed in its entirety during the staging and movement of the parade.

Parade route: The parade will follow its customary route, starting and ending in the National Grand Bank parking lot, traveling from Pleasant to Washington to Essex and back to Pleasant.

Registration: Gerry 5 VFA, 210 Beacon St. on Sunday, July 3, 6-8 p.m.; and in the National Grand parking lot on Pleasant Street from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on July 4.

Harbor illumination and fireworks

Date: Monday, July 4 (rain date Tuesday, July 5)

Time: Beginning at 7 p.m.

Location: Front Street

Details: Beginning at 7 p.m., Front Street will be closed to all traffic, and there will be no parking between Franklin Street and Fort Sewall Lane. Franklin Street becomes one-way from Front Street to Washington Street, and Washington Street becomes one-way from Franklin Street to State Street.

Flare pickup: Residents whose properties abut Marblehead Harbor are encouraged to pick up their flares as soon as possible at the central fire station, 1 Ocean Ave. Residents will be required to provide identification that indicates where they live, according to the fire chief.

MBTA: Between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., the MBTA bus route will follow the pre-designated snow route.

Post-fireworks

Details: Traffic leaving the beach parking lots will merge with traffic leaving the Neck and be allowed only a right or left turn at the intersection of Ocean and Atlantic avenues. Front Street will be closed at State Street to allow for pedestrian traffic along Front Street coming from Fort Sewall. State Street will become one-way from Front Street to Washington Street. All traffic from the area between State Street and Franklin Street will be directed along Mugford Street and Green Street to West Shore Drive.

Festival of Arts Street Festival

Date: Monday, July 4

Time: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Location: Washington Street between Rockaway and Darling streets and surrounding area

Details: Washington Street will be closed between Rockaway and Darling streets. Both Rockaway and Darling streets will remain open to traffic. Hooper Street will be closed between Tucker Street and Washington Street. Mason Street will be closed between Tucker Street and Washington Street. There will be no parking allowed along Washington Street between Rockaway Street and Darling Street. Police are strongly recommending that anyone living or conducting business in the area relocate their vehicles before 11:30 a.m., lest they get blocked in.
